Frequently Asked Questions

About Virtual Reality

WHAT IS VR
Virtual Reality (VR) is a computer simulated environment that places the user inside an experience (unlike traditional user interfaces). Users are immersed, allowing them to interact with 3D worlds, making it different from simply viewing a screen.

IS VR FOR ME
Great news! At The VR Den, we are more than happy to help everyone find their joy. We have a fantastic variety of games and VR experiences on offer to cater to people of all backgrounds. It is an affordable, family friendly, and fun-inducing experience.

WHAT IS ROOM-SCALE VR
Room-scale in VR is referred to the use of a clear space (3m x 3m) to allow movement for the person using the VR application (such as a game/experience) – you can move freely in this play area, and have your real-life motion reflected in the virtual environment.

WHAT IS THE KAT WALK
The Kat Walk is an omnidirectional treadmill that improves the immersion of players by removing the room-scale restriction altogether. The treadmill supports the player with the use of a harness around the waist, allowing such movement as walking, running, crouching and jumping.

AGE LIMITS
As we are using HTC Vive headsets, the recommended minimum age from HTC is 12 years old. A parent/guardian must therefore be present at the beginning of the booking to formally sign our Terms and Conditions agreement on behalf of the child.
However, some games also have their own age approvals. To find out more, see our list of games available and read the information provided to determine what is appropriate.

ARRIVING ON TIME
We recommend arriving 15 minutes prior to your booking for guidance on the use of the equipment, and signing a disclaimer. This allows for the maximum play time of your booked session.

CANCELLATIONS
We require 48 hours in advance to notify of cancellations to receive a full refund. However, if circumstances do prevent you from cancelling within the 48 hours prior – then we will do our best to reschedule your session for a more suitable time.

Health and Safety

WHAT TO WEAR
Please make sure to wear flat, enclosed shoes. We recommend trousers or shorts for a more comfortable experience, but skirts and dresses are fine.
Glasses/contact lenses can fit inside our HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD), but the Vive also features adjustment dials to configure the focus for each individual eye. There is a separate dial to match the screen separation to that of your eyes. Our team will always be on hand to guide you or focus it for you.

SELF SAFETY, AND SAFETY OF OTHER PLAYERS
The VR technology that we use has precautions in place to give players warning when their play zone is at the edge. A holographic wall will appear to notify you. Our set ups also provide a bit more leeway past that point, and each player will be monitored by one of our staff.
The omnidirectional treadmill does not allow you to move off your zone, avoids walls, and other players all in one. Bonus!

PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS
Pre-existing medical conditions affecting the heart, your ability to safely perform physical activities or psychiatric conditions (such as anxiety disorders or PTSD) should be discussed with your doctor before trying this equipment.
As we are currently a mobile business, wheelchair access depends on each venue we are attending, but we will try to provide this information prior to each event.
